The Underwater Sauna in Tvååker Sweden
Situated about an hour south of Gothenburg Sweden, lives the strangest sauna I have ever come across. Ästad Vingård (literally Vineyard of Ästad), not only make their own unique wine but also have a one of a kind underwater sauna on their huge estate, which also include: 3 restaurants, 2 spas, a hotel and 4 vineyards.
2. Ylläs Ski Resort, Ylläsjärvi Finland
Where most gondolas won’t even allow naked flames during the ride to the top of the slopes, Ylläs ski resort has an entire 4 person sauna inside one of their gondolas. Incredibly, some people have even reported you can see the northern lights from this spot 719 metres above sea level. Once you’ve reached the top you’re welcomed into their spa and lounge where you can enjoy more of their sauna facilities.
3. The Burger King Sauna, Helsinki Finland
Part marketing stunt, part convenient attraction and somehow entirely real. The Burger King Sauna in Helsinki Finland originated as partially a marketing stunt as Burger King were keen to enter the Finnish market but were struggling to gain momentum. You can also order your burgers to the sauna and it is (not surprisingly) the only fast food sauna in existence. The experience is not cheap though 2 and a half hours will cost you a whoppering £250! It’s only available online and their website also seem to be out of commission so for now this Burger might be cooked.
4. The Tram Sauna, The Spa of Wonders, Milano Italy
The Spa of Wonders located in the centre of Milan offers not just 1 unique sauna experience but 5. The Spa of wonders really does live up to its name offering weird and wonderful relaxation setting seen almost no where else. Cinematic indoor storm pools, white forest relaxation rooms, historic roman fused baths, Eden project inspired lounge areas and the sauna tram (pictured above) which retains its original seating positions to make you feel like you are taking the tram before the invention of air conditioning.
5.Casagrande Laboratory, Floating sauna, Hardangerfjord Norway
This 2002 art project for Bergen Art Academy created by 2 students as a gift to the people of Rosendal. The only way to access this sauna is by boat or to swim. The central room actually has a central opening allowing for guests to jump straight from the sauna into the sea. It is unclear if this mysterious looking sauna is still there today.
